The incident happened last Monday in the Ozoro town of Delta State's Isoko North government district.
After the encounter, the suspect, 26, is said to have escaped.
The suspect was detained on Tuesday as a result of a warning to the public to be on the lookout, according to a statement from Delta Police spokesman DSP Bright Edafe.
