Aruna Quadri of Nigeria won the men's singles competition at the ITTF African Championship in Algeria.
The top-ranked tennis player in Africa, Aruna, overcame a 0-2 deficit to defeat the top-seeded Egyptian Omar Assar 4-3.
The competition was last won by Aruna in 2018, and his most recent two matches ended in Assar victories.
After winning in the round of 16, Aruna said he wanted to win the competition and would do everything in his power to do his country proud.
He said, “I haven’t won the African Championship since my last one in 2018, but I have played in all finals since then. It will be good to win a title this year, and I’m looking forward to giving my best. My biggest motivation is that I’m representing Nigeria again, and I want to give my heart and soul as usual for my country.”
