Terrorists abduct health worker in Borno

A new incidence in Borno occurred on Wednesday when suspected members of the notorious Boko Haram/ISWAP set up an ambush and kidnapped a medical worker, Babagana Bulama. It had been barely a few days after the last kidnapping event in Borno.

The most recent incidence occurred in Northern Borno Senatorial District along the Nganzai-Monguno road.

Bulama, the victim, was being held captive by as-yet-unidentified gunmen while performing official business for the Borno State Government as a Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) staff member.

According to information obtained by news organisations, this is not the first time such an incident of kidnapping has occurred. In recent years, many staff members of international non-governmental organisations, or INGOs, have reported feeling targeted along the same path, including the kidnapping of a photojournalist turned humanitarian worker who was taken at his home in Monguno and whose whereabouts have been unknown for more than a year.

The capital of Borno state, Maiduguri, is about 100 kilometres from Monguno, a significant town in northern Borno, which is home to thousands of internally displaced people (IDPs) from nearby local government areas that share borders with Chad, Niger, and Cameroun Republic, including the shores of Lake Chad.

At the time of publication, all attempts to reach DSP Sani Shatambaya, the police public relations officer, for confirmation had failed.
