Amaju Pinnick, the current leader of the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, has reaffirmed his decision not to run for re-election at the Annual General Assembly, which took place on Thursday. As a result, the NFF will have a new president in place come September 30.
In an interview with Arise TV in April, Pinnick had stated that he would not be looking to return to the workplace because the job had damaged his relationship with his family. There were growing calls for him to go at the time because Nigeria had just missed qualifying for the World Cup in Qatar.
The football administrator from the Delta informed the 44-member NFF congress on Thursday during the General Assembly that he will not be running for office in September.
“As I stand before you today, I want to thank the Congress for what they have done for Nigeria football in the last 8 years. I want to leave the Congress as one unit the way it was handed to me in 2014.
“I want to say it here that I am not going to contest for the NFF President again.”
After rejecting a suggested October 20 date, the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) Congress also set September 30 as the date for the election into the board of the football house.
The current board's term, which was set to expire on September 20 but has now been extended until September 30, when the elective congress will take place at a location that will be determined later.
The electoral congress is anticipated to be held in Edo State.
