According to the Edo State Government, schools will be ranked for the 2022–2023 academic year based on their exceptional achievements.
The state commissioner for education, Dr. Joan Osa-Oviawe, stated in Benin on Thursday that the goal was to distinguish between institutions that had succeeded and those that had fallen short of the government's expectations.
According to the commissioner, local governments would also be graded based on how well the schools under their jurisdiction performed.
He claims that no school would be overlooked, including private schools and adult education centres.
A School Management Board (SMB) will also soon be constituted, according to Osa-Oviawe, as part of state government measures to improve school governance within the context of EdoBEST 2.0.
Members of the board, according to her, would assist school operations and bring in much-needed outside funding for the institutions.
The commissioner announced that the board would start operating in September 2022 and urged civic-minded people from home and abroad to apply for the position.
“Edo State Ministry of Education is inviting community service-driven individuals at home and in the diaspora to consider sitting on the board of any public Senior Secondary School of their choice.
“Each SMB will consist of 11 members, including a representative of a school’s Parents/Teachers Association, a parent of a student in the school and the school principal, who will serve as Secretary to the board,” Osa-Oviawe said.
