Bournemouth fires Scott Parker as head coach following Liverpool 9-0 defeat

AFC Bournemouth's head coach, Scott Parker, was fired after Matchday Four.

Parker will be replaced in the interim by Gary O'Neil, a former Bournemouth midfielder, the club announced on Tuesday morning on its official website.

According to the media, Parker is the first manager fired in the 2022/2023 season after losing his final three games in charge.

The statement, which quotes club owner Maxim Demin, reads;

"AFC Bournemouth can announce that the club has parted company with head coach Scott Parker."

"I would like to record my gratitude to Scott and his team for their efforts during their time with us,' said Maxim Demin. Our return to the Premier League last season under his leadership will go down as one of the most successful seasons in our history."

"However, in order for us to continue progressing as a team and as a Club as a whole, we must be aligned in our strategy to run the club sustainably." We must also have faith in and regard for one another. That is the strategy that has brought this club so much success in recent years, and it is one that we will not abandon. The search for a new head coach will begin right away."

"Gary O'Neil will take interim charge of the team, with Shaun Cooper and Tommy Elphick assisting," the statement concluded.

Parker was fired following Bournemouth's 9-0 loss to Liverpool at Anfield on Saturday, after winning only the first game of the season against Aston Villa and a Carabao Cup second-round tie against Norwich on penalties.
