Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike has awarded each Rivers United player $20,000 for winning the Nigeria Professional Football League title in 2021/22.
Wike made the announcement at a grand reception for the team on Thursday in Port Harcourt.
The Port Harcourt Dwellers won the championship for the first time after defeating Plateau United.
Chijoke Akuneto, the club's forward, was also named top scorer with 19 goals.
Aside from the monetary award, the players and officials will also go on a two-week training tour of Madrid, Spain, prior to the start of the 2022/23 season.
Wike also promised the players $40,000 if they advance to the group stage of the CAF Champions League next season.
Since Enyimba's back-to-back wins in 2003 and 2004, no Nigerian club has won the CAF Champions League.
