Impeachment: Samuel Ortom backs National Assembly’s threat against Muhammadu Buhari
Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue applauded the National Assembly for giving President Muhammadu Buhari a six-week deadline to intensify the battle against insecurity or face impeachment.

Last Wednesday, the Senate Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) staged a walkout of the plenary to protest Buhari's failure to put an end to insecurity.

Sen. Philip Aduda, the minority leader, and his colleagues later spoke before the Senate Press Corps, giving Buhari a six-week deadline to get his act together or face impeachment proceedings.

Ortom pushed for the action, telling the Senators it had been overdue.

Aduda led a delegation of several National Assembly members who came to brief the Governor on Friday, and according to a statement by his chief press secretary Nath Ikyur, the Governor issued the commendation at that time.

The Governor praised those members of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, who have chosen to do the "right thing" and called the threat by the Senate and House PDP caucuses to impeach the President "patriotic."

Ortom asserts that Buhari has fallen well short of Nigerians' expectations in terms of handling the country's security and economic problems.

As the PDP's regional leader in the North Central region, Aduda informed Ortom that the delegation thought it was proper to inform Ortom of the National Assembly's vote to impeach the President.

Senator Orker Jev and Hon. Samson Okwu were among those who joined Aduda.
