Igbo youths under the aegis of the Coalition of South East Youth Leaders (COSEYL) has commended the call by Benue State governor, Samuel Ortom, asking the Federal Government to release the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, even as they urged other governors to support his stand.
The youths in a statement by its President General, Goodluck Ibem, described Ortom’s utterance as a mark of bravery and patriotism.
Also,Ibem noted that the earlier suggestion for a political solution to the release of Kanu he said is the best approach for adoption.
“Ortom’s call has shown to all that he is a man of integrity, truth, justice and fairness who believes in saying and standing firmly on the side of truth at all times even when it is not convenient to do so.
“Ortom has been the lone voice in the wilderness that has stood firmly in defense of the downtrodden and the voiceless masses of Nigeria who have no voice.
“Ortom is truly patriotic and his stand on national issues is because he wants to see his country be on its feet again.
“He has always demonstrated courage in saying the truth even in the face of danger. He has shown to be a selfless leader who sees political office as an opportunity to work for the people in order to better their lot. In a generation where people like him with such boldness, audacity and courage are not easy to come by, Ortom is truly the People’s Governor! He is a rare gem.
“We call on the federal government to as a matter of urgent importance, heed to the call by the governor of Benue State and release Mazi Nnamdi Kanu from detention without further delay.
“The call by Governor Ortom that the federal government should handle Nnamdi Kanu’s case politically remains the only solution in solving the problem facing us today,” Ibem stated.
He however added that Kanu’s release is the only solution to insecurity in the south east “The Immediate release of Nnamdi Kanu from detention remains the only solution to resolving the security and political challenges in the South East geopolitical zone.
“We call on other governors to emulate the voice of the voiceless and the brightest star in the firmament of the Middle Belt, Governor Samuel Ortom in demanding for the immediate release of Nnamdi Kanu from detention”. Ibem stated.
