This summer, the Amsterdam giants paid big bucks to get Bassey from Rangers, and they are certain that he will reach his full potential.
Gerry Hamstra, the technical director of Ajax, has reaffirmed his confidence in Calvin Bassey, the most recent addition, to flourish in Amsterdam.
After joining Ajax for €23 million from Rangers in July, Bassey became the club's second most expensive acquisition. The Super Eagles' standout made tremendous progress last year.
He made an impression while wearing the Rangers jersey last season, but his man-of-the-match display in the Europa League final against Eintracht Frankfurt made the world sit up and take attention.
The 22-year-old was rumoured to be on his way to Chelsea and Bayern Munich, but he decided to go to Ajax instead.
The Godenzonen had to pay Bassey top bucks as a replacement after losing their star defender Lisandro Martinez to Manchester United.
Technical director for Ajax Hamstra thinks that the action will finally pay off for his team.
“He may not play in the biggest league, but he did play the Europa League final,” Hamstra told Ziggo sports, as per VI
“He has made a rapid development and we think he can achieve even more.
“We have a wide squad, but he(Bassey) offers us specific qualities.”
Bassey is yet to play for Ajax because of work permit issues. But he would look to settle it ahead of the new Eredivisie season which kicks off on the 5th of August.
